Exorda

A product choice

Why does Exorda use manual entry?

Automatic bank feeds sound like the obvious end point for a finance app. Transactions arrive, categories appear and the dashboard fills itself.

Exorda does not work that way. It has no continuous bank connection, and the entries that form your financial history are added by you.

That costs a little time. It is also the point.

A dashboard can be detached from the work

Imported transactions can produce a very polished account of what has already happened. It may still feel like a report generated somewhere else.

For the person Exorda was built for, that distance was a problem. Seeing a chart was not the same as knowing what was in it.

This is an experience behind the product, not a claim about everyone’s psychology. Many people prefer automatic feeds, and there are more elaborate tools for that.

Paying attention is part of tracking

Adding income, a bill or a loan is a small act of checking. What is this? Which month does it belong to? Has it already been dealt with?

The work should remain light enough to continue. Still, it is hard to be genuinely familiar with a situation that never receives any attention.

Manual entry does not improve the numbers by itself. It keeps the person doing the tracking involved in how those numbers were formed.

A finished month

Completing a month can feel quietly rewarding even when the result is negative. Nothing has been fixed by declaring it complete. The reward is knowing exactly where things stood.

Exorda’s periods support that routine. They are not streaks, points or a test of discipline.

Bank data can still be useful

Manual does not mean that bank records are ignored. You can export or paste rows yourself and use Reconciliation to compare them with entries already in Exorda.

Suggested matches, duplicates and earlier imports help with the check. You choose what is imported, skipped or corrected. The bank data is supporting material, not a feed that silently becomes your dashboard.

Privacy is part of the choice

No continuous bank connection also means Exorda does not need ongoing access to a bank account for this feature. That fits a product that tries to keep data collection narrow.

Privacy is not the only reason for manual entry, and manual entry is not automatically private in every product. Here it is part of the same choice: one independent place for the financial situation, regardless of bank, maintained by the people whose situation it is.
